So today we are going to be chatting about homeschooling, life and work. As homeschool moms we have to create homeschool lessons, gather materials for those lessons, teach those lessons, keep our homes put together, keep food in our pantries, take care of dinner, pay bills and some of us have online businesses or babysit on the side. Some homeschooling momma work outside the home a few days a week. Some homeschool mommas do not work and focus more on making their homeschooling days super amazing(honestly, I wish I was one of those mommas, but I'm not, I have to work).

So let's first talk about homeschooling and keeping that part of our life sane. Homeschooling is nuts. Somedays I ask myself why did I choose this path. Most days I ask myself that question. So why did we choose this crazy path? Some of us have to because we live too far from the school where our children would attend. Some women homeschool because the quality of school near their home doesn't meet the educational experience the parents believes they can offer the children at home. Some parents just don't want to throw their children into a room with 30+ other kids and one adult. Some parents homeschool because their children has behavior struggles and it is a better fit for their family. And some parents believe homeschooling will bring their children closer together and it will be a beautiful experience for the whole family.

Whatever the reason is that you chose to homeschool I am sure it is a well thought out one and I believe you are making the right choice for your family. Homeschooling can be a beautiful experience. I wish I was a better homeschool mom. I wish I could relax and focus on my kids more! I wish I didn't check social media so much. I wish I could get my kids in some awesome homeschool groups in my area. But ya'll it is hard letting go of social media when it is the foundation of your business. It is equally hard going to homeschool events when you don't really fit in or your kids are much younger than their kids. Does anyone else feel that way? I maybe allow on that one but I don't think so.

Homeschool Solutions

Reduce the Amount of Phone Time For Mom

Lets talk about some solutions to making our homeschooling awesome. Let's get off social media a bit and focus on our kids. Can we put apps on our phone to track how much time we are spending on them. I just downloaded a app called Moment (Click here to check out their website). This app looks awesome and I am hoping it will help me set healthy phone usage goals. I am so tired of letting my work, phone, etc get in the way of being a awesome homeschool mom!

When do you get your work done? If you are like me you probably try to work during homeschool hours. Naughty. Naughty. Working during homeschool hours should be a big no no. We truly need to be paying more attention to our children. I am seriously at the front of the line for #momfail on this one! I am always trying to squeeze in a few work hours during the day when I should be focusing on my children. Then, my kids start getting CRAZY like drawing on the wall with markers, fighting and then mama gets into crazy mode and all H-E-double hocky sticks breaks loose. Does that only happen to me?

So how do we be better more loving homeschool moms to our wee ones? We need to focus on homeschooling when homeschooling is happening. My homeschool hours are the same as my in home hours. My homeschool hours are 9AM-4PM. So when do I work you may ask. Currently, I am working during the time when I should be homeschooling. So I am changing my schedule.

New Work Hours

My new work hours are early morning hours. I work from 5AM- 6:30AM During the week. Then, I work 6:30AM- 9:00AM Saturday and Sunday morning. I really try to only work outside of the home so I go to a local coffee shop or the library to work. Ladies, working outside of the home is so healing for the soul! You can get so much more quality work than if you were at home with your kids pulling your hair and yelling "MOMMY!".

Working at Home as a Homeschool Mom

We all want to work right? Most of us do! But we don't know how or when. We want to homeschool so that we can protect and mother our little ones but we want to contribute to our children's futures by helping contribute financially. How do we help our families when "we don't work".  We work really hard right ladies? We are providing a happy home with good food and we are homeschool teachers! But if you are like me and have big goals you need to work so that you can financially contribute to those goals. So work and life balance is key! The golden key that will open the doors you need to open.

House Chores

Oh, I just love cleaning my toilet! Don't you just love using that mint toilet bowl cleaner? I am just kidding! Although I do love love love having a clean house I do not like the process of cleaning because every time I reach for the mint toilet bowl cleaner I start feeling like a SLAVE. I do not like cleaning because I don't like the feeling of knowing I am made to be more than a toilet bowl cleaner. I am made for bigger things.

As stay at home moms we are suppose to cook, clean, homeschool and make money (some how). But how the heck do we do it all? If you have a magical formula that is working for you please leave it in the comments below. I am sure we'd all like to hear. All I have found was planning. Lots and lots of planning goes into balancing teaching, home life, and work life. I have also found that there is going to be a learning curve to this. We need help sharing the information we learn. My friend, that's why I am sharing with you.

As far as cooking and baking. This has to be planned out so that you can collect all the ingredients and supplies needed to make nice homemade meals for your growing family. I have also learned that grocery shopping on the weekend and freezing some of the meat helps us plan our meals for the week. Did you see that recipe for paleo brownies? There were pretty epic. Here is where I got the recipe (The Man's Big World- Paleo Brownies).

We really like having a clean house. So how do we keep our home clean and enjoy it at the same time? I like to listen to a podcast while cleaning. I also like using cleaning Method products. They are all natural or if you have access to essential oils maybe you could make your own cleaning products. So get some nice natural cleaning products, cleaning gloves, and listen to a podcast like this one!

  • Clean Your Kitchen (Counters, Appliances, Floors)
  • Clean Your Bathrooms (Counters, Mirrors, Toilet, Floors)
  • Clean Your Bedrooms (Bedding, Dusting, Floors)
  • Do Laundry (1 Load a Day is Ideal!)
  • Front Yard ( Take Away Weeds, Rake Leaves, ETC) * Leaves are natural compost for the trees if you leave them by the tree it will naturally compost but if you live in a HOA you will need to rake them and take them away.
  • Back Yard (Garden, Weeds, Leaves, ETC)

Final Thoughts on TV and Electronics( Whole Family)

 How to Plan Homeschool Lessons

How to Plan Homeschool Lessons

My final thoughts are that we need to be awesome homeschool moms and focus on our kids completely when we are with them. So we need to focus on our kids as homeschool moms. Homeschooling is a great choice for you and your family. You kids lives could really benefit from having a quality homeschool education. But we need to make sure we are focusing on our kids during the day. We should not be putting them in front of the TV or other electronics while we work. I've done that before friends and its not good! I promise. Plus we should think about the long term effects of giving our children electronics verse in person time.

We want our children to thrive in this big world that we live in. Kids need social time with us and with other families. So we need to make the effort and get out of our comfort zone and share our children with the world. We can take our kids to the park, library, music classes, art classes or P.E. Our kids just need to be happy and healthy so we need to make sure all their needs are met.

Make sure you are giving your self the "me" time you need and deserve. The time you give your self to collect your thoughts and get it together is so important for your overall wellness and happiness. I hope you all have a wonderful Monday! Let's make this a awesome week!
