Benefits of Homeschooling Your Child

There are several advantages of homeschooling your child. As a homeschool mom you get to choose what to teach your child and when to teach it. You get to pick the curriculum, books, and other educational materials. You also get to choose where to go on field trips. One of my favorite parts about homeschooling is we can go anywhere together at anytime. We can play at the park, go out to lunch, or go to the library at anytime of the day.

  • Great Educational Opportunity- Your child may learn at their own pace. If your child struggles in a certain subject you can do extra practice/ tutoring in the subject. Also your child can get ahead in some subjects as well. Your the teacher so you get to choose.
  • Enhance the Relationship you have with your children- You get to create a closer relationship with your child. You get to play, pretend, explore and live life together! Homeschooling is definitely a once in a life time experience! You get to love the life you have created with your children and teach your child essential life skills along the way.
  • Teach Your Child Your Beliefs- Whether you are a Christian or not we all have certain beliefs that make us who we are. As a homeschool parent you can share those ideas and thoughts with your child. You get to be the one who is molding your child verse people in a school who may or may not have the same beliefs as you and your family.
  • You don't get sick as often- This one is huge for us! My oldest son, Thomas, used to get sick often and catch skin infections from other children in the daycare settings. We have see a great reduction in sickness since we decided for me to be the caretaker.
  • Do homework at home- As a parent our children have homework. As a homeschool mom you can have your child do the homework during homeschool hours. You also get to choose what type of work you want to do for homework. I love being a homeschool mom!
  • We can travel- We are planning on starting a farm in Northern Idaho and since we are homeschooling we can take our children with us without worrying about taking them out of the school system! Yay!
  • Older Children are Teachers- My oldest son makes a wonderful teacher to the younger kids. He really does guide them and teach them. He helps his brother who is two years younger read and write and our 2 year old baby girl is also learning alot!

So of course there is some negative sides of homeschooling. With everything in life there is positives and negatives. Let's talk about some of the reasons why homeschooling is difficult at times.

  • Less Work Time- I will be honest I do have less work time because I choose to homeschool. But if you want to blog, create YouTube videos or anything else like that I want to encourage you that it is possible. You just have to work around homeschooling. You will have to be more creative with the time that you do have! Some people actually report that they feel more creative and effective in their work after having quality time with their children.
  • Socialization- You can find lots of ways to have your children meet friends. We like to go to the gym where there is free childcare and my kids love playing with those children. My kids also enjoy going to the library where they meet other children their age. Another way to have your children meet children in your area is to go to the park by your home. We like to go to the park near the time when children are getting our of school. This gives us a opportunity to meet other parents and children that live near us. There are also lots of homeschool groups to join or homeschool field trip groups.

Wrap Up

I hope you enjoyed today's podcast! Today's podcast was intended to encourage follow homeschool families and share our beliefs about the benefits of homeschooling. We know that homeschooling is not a good choice for everyone.
